Farewell Ondine

Breath and heartbeat. Inseparable, and synonymous with life itself. Soothing, natural, and ever so familiar, they are with us every second of every day and every night.

But, again, there comes a time when these natural sounds give way to the sound of machinery accompanied by the sorrowful tune of Farewell Ondine which takes us into the night. A night of those living with Ondine’s curse.

Suddenly, alarm buzzes, insistently letting us know that something has gone wrong. The machine is down… but the breathing continues. Self-sustained, strong, and regular. The curse dissipates and we find ourselves in a world of harmony, turning our faces to the sun and to hope. As parents, we deeply believe that our children will not follow the sirens and nymphs into the depths.
